So I thought I might as well pose the question.

How does one get an intelligent but warlike species that can't communicate and doesn't seem interested in anything but attacking people to calm down?

I think we might have some trouble against an entire city of . . . angry fish people.

Anyway, I don't think it's that they're not willing to listen--although they might not be. They just don't seem to be capable of communication in the same way we or the Palai are.

Then the Jane Goodall thing, find a way to gain their trust and study them. Even wild animals have rules guiding their behaviors, so if that's all the Uvi are we should be able to take advantage of that.

We may have exhausted our supply of 'trust' when we sided with the Palai. But in any case, I think learning more about the Uvi is the logical next step.

If they're smart enough to be wary of us after only a few encounters, we'd have to either be patient or figure out a peace offering. Food, maybe, but without hurting the Palai.

You're the second one to mention that they might just be eating the Palai. If that is what you meant to imply.

Wild animals don't typically keep slaves, and you guys seem convinced they're not smart enough to treat like people.

I'm not convinced of anything. Just that I've exhausted every way I can think of of communicating with them.
