Hey guys! Sonic here! What's happenin'?!

[ the energetic voice of a teenage boy rings out in everyone's minds loud and clear. Without an image, there's no reason to assume it belongs to a short, anthropomorphic rodent. But it does. After being here for a few months, however, he's learned it's easier to talk to people if they don't have to deal with the shock of seeing him. ]

Just thought I'd pop in and say hi... oh, and ask for a hand. Anyone wanna help a guy build a ramp outside the apartments? All you gotta do is help me move some snow around! I'm working on it myself, but things go pretty slow with just one hog on the job. It'll be worth it when we're done, though, promise! Plus, I got a bunch of juice boxes to share with anyone who helps.

[ it's definitely capri sun. ]

Oh, and one other thing. Anyone had any luck finding winter clothes that aren't made for humans? I'm freezing over here.

Yeah! That's what I thought. Don't worry, I'll go slow at first so you can keep up with me.

[ he snickers playfully. ]

You'll have to help me build this ramp, though.

[there's a bit of a pause while Shadow presumably googles snowboarding. Or whatever counts for google in this place. He's familiar with the concept, but not the execution. He immediately sees another problem]

... Don't you need more than a ramp to make this work? It seems like it requires a significant slope.

Don't worry, it'll be a big ramp!

[ he's got this ]

... I don't think you fully understand the physics involved in this activity but sure. Whatever.

I'll make it work one way or another. I always do.

[ except that one time ]

So, you wanna help me out? I'm in front of the apartment building.

... Fine. I'll be out shortly.

[he's gotta get his scarf, bro]

[ and see him he will! Sonic's not exactly a hard guy to spot. He's near the front of the apartment building, as he said - also wearing a scarf and looking rather heroic - and rolling a very large snowball. It's about half as big as he is right now. Why is he doing this? Well, there's a pile of other snowballs around that size near the building's exterior wall. He must be building the foundation for his ramp this way... ]

[that's because scarves are awesome and warm... and also one size fits all. Sure, Shadow can survive the cold and vacuum of space with naught but some frost on his quills. But that doesn't mean he likes it. The A.R.K. was always perfectly climate controlled!

As is his apartment.

He misses his apartment.

Shadow watches Sonic work for a moment, then looks around. He's collected... quite a bit of the available snow]

You have to leave some on the ground, you know.

[ you haven't lived until you've slept on the dirt like a weird furry hobo, shadow...

naturally, when the black hedgehog makes his appearance, Sonic offers him a big wave, hopping up on top of the snowball he was rolling a moment ago. ]

Look who decided to show up! [ and with some cynical commentary, to boot. He doesn't know what he expected. ] Don't worry so much. I'm not gonna use all of it up. But, like I said - big ramp! It's gonna be sweet.

[he HAS slept out in the dirt like a weird furry hobo, on missions.

He does not enjoy it. He doesn't like being dirty.

And duh. Cynical commentary is but one of the many services he offers]

"Sweet". Indeed. [Shadow examines the ramp with a clinical eye, considering its proportions and build. Then he crosses his arms and looks at Sonic] You need to begin filling in the gaps immediately, or this abomination of engineering won't stand under its own weight, much less any additional pressure. You really are worthless without your fox friend.

Everyone's a critic.

[ sometimes a man just wants to build a big pile of snow and slide down it on a plank of fiberglass. he didn't think this was complicated!! ]

Okay, then we pack more snow into it. No big deal.

Hmph. I'm just telling you now so if you break your back later I can say 'I told you so'.

[clearly. Also. "We"?] Why don't you get on that.

[ he hops back down off of his snowball, beckoning Shadow over. ]

C'mon, you said you'd help. It's not like you're busy.

[ SAVAGE... but he knows it's true... ]

[that just earns Sonic a glare in response. No, he's not busy, technically....

Urg. He did say he would help, didn't he? Why did he say that.

But Shadow is a hedgehog of his word, and breaking it would not be like him at all. Even for something stupid.]

.... Hold on. I saw something on my way down here that may prove useful.

[BRB]

[ see, he knows you're a big softie on the inside. ]

Huh? Well, okay. Don't take too long!

[ he's not patient... in fact, he starts rolling his giant snowball to the pile while Shadow is gone anyway, trying with all his little blue furry might to heft it up on top of some of the others. ]
