[Genette has provided everyone a portion of mirror, which they're free to do whatever they want to with it BUT the idea is that they introduce themselves to the telepathy network with a video feed, showcasing their face. Otherwise, the coven might just get an endless stream of grass, sand or hut wall.

[well ... it is pretty stupid, but you wouldn't ever hear that from Madoka — there are probably people out there with weirder taste in home decor!]

I get it. Your magic — it sort of brings everybody else's together, right? I think that's a really important power to have.

[Things John isn't saying: they also created an umbrella with crab legs while they were screwing around. It's something though, and for a moment now it's his turn to look a little surprised when she speaks up.

While what she says is true, it's not something he thought about. Not consciously, anyway.]

I guess so. I did not really think of it that way, but maybe that's true. It's just that we're used to doing everything together so it made sense? [There's another more subdued grin.] It has been a really long time since I've seen them. Either of them. So I'm glad, too.

No, nobody I know from home is here — but that's all right, I'm sure they can hold down the fort while I'm gone. [though she's only largely all right with it right now because she's already had a good cry over it when she was alone in her hut.]

[Save the betas from themselves. But he registers that and there's a short frown. That's probably really terrible? Getting stuck in a weird place you don't know with a bunch of people you don't know. Even if he's still getting to know them, Jake and Dirk are here, too. They would be something even if Dave and Rose weren't here.]

I'm sure they will. [He doesn't know Madoka's friends, but he's working under the idea that anyone she is friends with can't be bad.] And maybe they'll turn up here later? We all came here without warning, right? Anything is possible at this point. There are still people I'm hoping to see here, too.

[There's a bit of a pause before his face shifts from its serious mode to being more relaxed.] Until they show up, you can count on us for anything you need. I don't think my friends will mind. [And if they do John will probably argue anyway but. The Strilondes are good kids.] If you want, I mean.

[if the way she's beaming is any indication, Madoka is incredibly happy by John's offer — maybe a bit relieved, too? she feels bad about relying on others for help, but at least she has healing she can offer in return.]

Totally! [Oh no that's so cute? Madoka, stop.] It seems pretty stupid not to work together and rely on each other when we need to if we're all here anyway. It isn't a big deal at all. I can introduce you to them later, too. They're...somewhere.

[John Egbert definitely ditched his friends earlier to quietly die from crab poisoning and instead started talking to people on the network. That's fine.]

I'd love to meet your friends! They sound like they're a lot of fun to be around.

They are! [He says in the most unbiased fashion possible.] We, uh, haven't really seen a lot of people or each other in the last three years so this is new to all of us, too. Sometimes Dave talks way too much and sometimes Rose is snarky and bossy but they're the best.

Who knows? Maybe we can keep combining powers, too. [He's already brainstorming of items a healer might need, or things that people could want. That's just how things are.]

[Madoka would have to think about that. she did find a book about medicine back at the caravan, but she wound up leaving it there, because none of it made any sense to her. apparently being the nurse aid for your class in school doesn't actually help much with ... aid.]

Wait ... does that mean you've been alone for three years?

[They have time. That's the thing he has to remind himself, too. For once, they have time. Still, the question causes him to shake his head a bit.]

No. Well, sort of? Dave and Rose were traveling with another small group of people for three years, and my sister and I were with someone else following a different path to the same place. We were unable to talk to them for that whole time. [It's. The most simplified version of what happened and instead of explaining he shrugs lightly.] But it definitely sucked either way.

Being separated from your friends for that long ... I can't imagine what that must be like.

Were you traveling on a different planet then?

[windeity]

Well...Jade gave me a choice to be with Dave and Rose and travel with them and the others. But I didn't think it was fair to leave her to travel alone, so I stayed with her. It was sort of like traveling on a different planet, but not really. We were traveling through space? Kinda.

[...sigh.] It's a little complicated, but we were traveling on the Yellow Yard while Dave and Rose were traveling on a meteor. There was no way to get in contact with them besides the very first letter we sent at the beginning.

[Madoka has no idea what a Yellow Yard is, but the more John talks about himself and his friends, the more convinced she is of how cool they are. she's pretty sure that not even Mami-san could travel on a meteor — well, not that she's ever encountered a meteor to try.]

Are ... are you guys superheroes?

[Ahaha...ha...ha. He actually pauses because like. How do you exactly explain this. Where the fuck are the others to help him explain this???]

It is a little more than that? We're sort of gods.

Gods — [that did it. it's probably impossible for Madoka to look anymore shocked than she does right this second.]

[and, after a moment of stunned silence:]

... You really are, aren't you?

[Whoops.]

Yeah. I don't think we knew that would happen when everything started but yes. [There's an awkward smile?] But I don't think our god status applies here since our powers are gone. So I do not really know what happens next.

Well ... this is probably pretty normal compared to what you're used to, right? Maybe Qri brought you all here because ... she wanted you to live here normally, with your friends. Even if only for a little while.

[the irony of Madoka saying this is lost on her, sadly.]

You think? [It's a nice thought, but there is way too much to do back home. John in particular is a bit unsettled because he would be okay with staying here, even though he knows he has to fix everything.] But then what about everyone else?

... I don't really know. [but there is one thing that Madoka knows very well — so much so that she based her entire life around it, and once upon a time she became the literal embodiment of it. hope.]

But I do think that no matter what we go through while we're here, no matter how hard it is ... it'll work out for the better for all of us, in the end. Maybe we'll leave here even more ready to face whatever we have to back home.

[Madoka...that's. Something. That's actually something like John himself would say and it's for that reason he doesn't immediately answer because it's weird hearing those kind of words from someone else? But right.]

You might be right about that. It's always better at the end of a journey, isn't it? [Unless you're the Homestuck kids. But maybe that means their journey isn't over yet.] Maybe this is just a place we are all supposed to learn some valuable lesson to take back with us to help keep our worlds safe and work with Qri to make it so. And maybe that is why not all of our friends are here.

[Maybes. Lots and lots of maybes.] But we can handle it, can't we?

[hey light kids gotta stick together right? but Madoka smiles at that, 100 percent in agreement.]

Absolutely. I think ... working together with friends and people we care about will make it even easier to handle.

I hope we get to become good friends, John-san.

I think we will. We have a lot of time to get to know each other, but I don't think it'll be hard to become friends with each other and make new friends, too. If Qri really needs our help, then...I guess that is what we'll do. I'll be here as long as I can.

[There's a slight tilt of his head.] So what are you going to do now?

I can't really do much fighting like this. [she looks down at her hand — rather, she's looking down at the ring on her finger. her Soul Gem.]

So, I guess I'll just have to do my best to support everyone — get better at healing.

[He notices that she glances off-screen but he doesn't think to ask. He doesn't think it's anything specific and maybe now isn't the time to ask either.]

I think we are going to need all of the support we can get. And you'll get better just like the rest of us. Did you read Genette's letter? We are going to have to explore and travel a lot. A healer is probably one of the best things you can be.

You think so? I guess I got lucky, then! [though she is tiny and pink, Madoka would be surprisingly difficult to injure or kill, anyway. one of the benefits of technically being a lich.]

[being right in the middle of the fray to heal someone suits her more than she realizes.]

I haven't really done a lot of exploring though ...
