Okay, let’s begin! This is an important message out for everyone to hear. Please listen up! This could be a good way to practice this new way of communication for those not used to it yet!

[Speaks up the resident ex-telepath and environmental sensor of her world. She has been listening to a lot of the new voices in the area. No worries she has been ignoring those revealing secrets or daydreams or what have you.]

My name is Nike. I’ve been in this adventure to other worlds for a good while now. I bet there’s a lot of questions and concerns many of you have. The whole thing can be pretty bewildering for those not used to world-hopping or living in areas that aren’t as natural as this one. That’s why we’re gonna try to help everyone as best as we can. Like securing everyone’s next meals since, well, we can’t expect our hosts to always feed us or to ration the food stuff they first give to you since it’s difficult to determine how long we’ll be here for. Um, I think our resident leader is here too. Actually, he’s next to me right now. Do you wanna take the reins?

[There is a choking noise at 'resident leader'. Jay recovers quickly enough, though. No promises about not listening to your revealing secrets.]

Right. I've talked to a few of you about this already, but what we'd like to do is set up groups for hunting, fishing, and scavenging or gathering. We're looking for people who have experience with those skills and are willing to teach them to others--or people who want to learn from their fellow coven members. Those of you with particular expertise may be asked to lead a group.

That’s right! This is all a volunteer service as well. We know not everyone is cut out to be a teacher or leader, so we’re asking for those with these skills to speak up to help form a group to specialize in these specific areas. The more people we have, the easier it’ll be to gather enough food for everyone in the coven. We understand there are those that don’t have any survival skills and many of you are new -- we want to help you to better adjust to your situation before having you join or do anything. Our goal is basically to help everyone remain healthy.

[While helping create a sense of unity which all is pretty much hinted.]

Also, we kinda want to figure out the current population of our members are too. Gotta know the size to figure out what would be a fair amount of resources to gather and share. Jay is in charge of that area. Since he’s been doing that stuff from the very beginning. Let him know if you don’t have any survival skills and/or if there’s an area you wish to learn. All those with any of the survival skills we’ve already mentioned that would like to volunteer, let me know! From there we’ll try to organize all of the data and have the group leaders give out the rest of the details.

I'd like to help! I'm not experienced in hunting or fishing but my magic is pretty useful for catching small animals. If you need me to learn normal ways of finding food I can do that too!

It's controlling animals! I already sometimes catch fish when Genette needs me to so being part of an organized group for it won't a big deal.

That's the spirit! I'm so glad you mention the use of powers. I didn't really consider it as we were discussing about this over at the hanging out thing Genette got us to do a few nights ago.

Even though you can't fish or hunt, I think we have a spot for you in those areas. Are you interested in learning to make traps? Unless you know how to fight already? Cause I think I have an idea on how to use your powers for trap making as well as fishing.

I'm willing to learn anything! I don't know how to fight though, so if that was needed, sorry.

[It takes Elle a good few moments to digest this broadcast, and while some of the specifics elude her, she does get the gist about needing people to help with food... and wait, what was that about lessons...?]

I wanna help, but I'm still learning a lot of things...

[She pauses, an idea coming to mind.]

Do you need a taste tester? Daddy says I'm the best taste taster he's ever had!

[He's extremely biased and doesn't have a wide sample size to begin with, but Elle doesn't have to know that.]

[A pause.]

We do need a taste-tester, but not the usual kind . . . it's because these plants and animals are strange to us, and some of them may not actually be edible. So we need someone to try them out first, to make sure no one gets sick.

[He's loathe to give that responsibility to a little girl, but.]

[She's not going to admit it, but that does sound a little scary. It causes her to hesitate for a moment, unsure if this really is the right way to go about helping people.]

I still want to help!

[Slightly tentative, but one deep breath later, there's a little more conviction in her statement as she speaks again:]

That way I'll be able to protect everyone!

[Not in the way she's expecting, but beggars can't be choosers, especially if they're still learning the art of war.]

[Is she...is she listening to the voice of a cute little girl? Yes, yes, she is by the sound of her inner voice. Nike can't help her eyes sparkle at the thought of having her join in on the taste testing!]

Of course you can! It'll be great to have you on board. Would you like to be the captain or vice-captain of our team? Since you suggested such a great idea, it's only fair, right?

[There may or may not be any ulterior motives in using the face of an innocent child to keep people mindful of feeding her just anything.]

[In true, trusting kid fashion, Elle does not detect any hint of an ulterior motive here at all, and is in fact, pleased that her suggestion is being taken so well.]

Sure thing! [What an exciting prospect!] Captain sounds good!

Sorey and I are pretty good at hunting and fishing; we know what to do with herbs, too, gathering and processing, but the ones at home don't always correspond to the ones here.

More to the point, we found a place not too far from the camp that looks like it can be used pretty well for farming, if you want to direct people there...? There's some stands of wheat growing there, and space for more food plants.

Hi Nike, hi Jay! If you need us to show you exactly where the spot is we can. I don't know much about farming, but there's enough space that we could probably plant a variety of different things there as long as we have the seeds for it. We can probably set aside some space for more plants if we get them from other worlds too.

[drizzle]

That's all right! We're all learning more about the herbs while figuring out which may be the best way to process them or not. I've been trying to figure out a way to preserve boar, crab, and fish meat with salt and smoke techniques like I would back home. Do you know anything about fruit fermenting and compressing?

[She may as well ask about it. After all, they sounded like they knew their stuff, so it doesn't hurt to find others like her that come from countries or worlds that are excellent at self-preservation.]

Also, you two didn't mention wanting to volunteer for fishing or hunting; would you be interested in joining those two groups? How about wanting the chance to teach or be leaders?

I haven't been given any particular reason to doubt or to believe that assertion.

I don't know if anything I can do really counts as "survival skills"... I can fish, but it's more of a hobby than something I've had to do to find food and survive. Still, this is probably easier for me to help with than fighting...

We could always use more hands to help, as long as you're willing to learn. How have you been getting your food so far, out of curiosity? Fishing?

The power that was given to me allows me to transform into animals that can assist with hunting.

Outside of that, a natural setting such as this is a little foreign to me. I'm also interested in learning as many practical skills as I can for surviving in it. Anything I learn well, I'd be willing to teach in the future.

[You get used to it! Or, well, if you're somehow simultaneously a privacy freak and an intrusive asshole, you make use of it to get people to answer your surveys.]

That sounds like a useful power. Can you turn into any animal, or are there limits?

We're glad to have you with us--as long as you're willing to learn, there are people here who can teach you what you need to know.

It never hurts to learn a new skill. You never know when it'll become useful.

[Be it for survival or to help out friends and family, they are all good reasons to learn a new skill.]

Is there an area of expertise you're particularly interested in learning? We have all kinds. Like fishing, hunting, farming, and taste testing. Although, we're also accepting suggestions too, if you have any.
