Hello there.

This is Jay. If we haven't spoken yet, I've been with this "coven" more or less since its beginning, and I helped coordinate defense during the first Uvi raid. Feel free to ask me any questions you don't want to bother Genette or Brie with; a more informed group benefits us all, after all.

I'm talking to you all in interest of that, actually: a number of us have expressed that a comprehensive listing of everyone's abilities, particularly those granted us by Qri, would be useful to have. If you'll come talk to me about yours, either over telepathy or in person, that would be much appreciated. Genette should know about your Qri-granted power, if you don't.

I'll be in the house we're staying in for most of the day. Please do take care of yourselves, and be careful not to get shocked.

I think this will be a big help, thank you ... if there are other healers here, I'd really like to make sure I meet them all.

Um. I don't think we've met formally — my name's Madoka.

[Jay looks up from his notebook, smiling pleasantly back at her.]

Jay. If there was any doubt. [His mouth quirks. He's probably heard a little bit about her from Dirk, but he doesn't mention that.] It's good to meet you properly, Madoka.

I'll make sure I introduce you to any healers I find. I assume you've spoken with Genette already?

It's good to meet you, too. I have spoken with her a little, but not so much about healing ... I should do that next time I see her.

[she pauses a moment, to find somewhere to sit so she can write. and, once she's settled:]

I guess the big question I have is ... ever since we first got here, they've wanted us to work on getting better at the magic Qri gave us, right? I still haven't figured out how I'm supposed to do that — and mine's so limited, it's already caused a few problems.

[rebells]

[He nods.]

It's something they haven't given us much guidance on, other than Brie's training session at the beginning of it all. The powers on my world worked differently, so I can't say I know what to do myself, to become more familiar with mine. Other than practice, of course.

Yours is time-limited, though, is it not? I think I remember Dirk saying something about that.

[It makes sense and he has been looking around for fellow shapeshifters. There might be patterns to the magic to help him better understand his. Shiro approaches with the paper in his hand.]

This is a good idea. I was looking for more shapeshifters to get some idea what to expect from that kind of power. I'm new to the team. Call me Shiro.

[rebells]

[He smiles.]

It's good to meet you, Shiro. If you haven't already met them, Mikleo can turn into a dragon and Tara-Fay also has some sort of shapeshifting power, although hers comes from her world, not from Qri.

I haven't but I'll look for them. [A dragon and a natural shapeshifter. Well, that's something.]

For the sake of the listing, I become a robotic lion. It's the same robot I piloted back home but smaller and with none of the firepower, the Black Lion should have. I'm still not sure what to think about that.

It seems like you're working really hard all the time.

[He gives her a thin smile.]

I've never seen the point in lying idle. This could be useful to us in the future.

It should make organizing explorations and fighting off attackers a lot easier wherever we go next! [Well, they're going back to the hub next, but after that...] Hopefully we don't have to fight off attackers next time, though.

[Jay snorts and rolls his eyes at Dirk, but he seems in relatively good humor about it all.]

Care to tell me how you foresee your fantastic powers of rhyming helping the coven?

We'll travel to a world where lyrical virtuosity and respect for the spoken word is the major cultural mode. We'll interact with rough uncertainty, but slowly come to understand the population. Unfortunately, there will always be an issue of resources. We try to get them through bartering and an exchange of services, but they just aren't buying it. The only way to win is through the greatest rap-off in the history of the multiverse.

Umm, quick question? What if you aren't um... certain what your powers do?

[rebells]

[Go ask Genette would be his answer, but he does happen to know what Jake's Qri-granted power is, so this clearly isn't about that.]

. . . you know you have a power, but you don't know what it does?

[Why is he surprised anymore, you Homestuck kids are weird.]

Hmmm, weeeeell, it would take a long, looooong time to list everything Cagliostro can do so... what if you just list "invented all of Alchemy"?

It's meant to be more of a practical list than an excuse for you to brag, really.

[The voice sounds amused, at least?]

Tch... [Suddenly her voice is... a lot less cute?] I'm being serious about it being too long to list... transmutation, creation of biological matter, body creation, elemental manipulation...

Oh, oh! But Cagliostro did get an ability for Qri!

Hmmmm... Sounds kind of dangerous to me. A list of everyone's strengths and potential weaknesses? What if that happened to fall into the wrong hands? Oooh, or even better! One of us isn't as interested in the good of the others and is dirty scoundrel.

[There's silence for a bit . . .

. . . and then the sound of laughter, slightly muffled, coming through the telepathic connection.]

Well, you're not wrong. I could be completely untrustworthy, and playing everyone who answered this survey for a fool.

Should I assume you're declining the opportunity to become one of them?

[ she's amused, she'll give him that. ]

Oooh, and now you're admitting it! Is this a clever ruse to avoid suspicion or is this a confession no one will take seriously? The plot thickens!

But... I tend not to answer such prying questions from strangers, even the most famous ones.

[ jude fills out the papers with no preamble, handing the forms back to jay when he's finished. ]

Everything should be written right there, but I figured I should toss in an extra mention that I'm most efficient with healing overall. I can still fight, but I'm probably much handier on the sidelines in case someone gets hurt.

[Ah, efficiency. Jay takes the survey, reading it carefully before putting it in a small stack of filled out surveys nearby. He opens a notebook and begins to write.]

Oh? I'll remember that. You were healing people during the Uvi raids, were you not?

[ he's sort of surprised jay remembered a detail like that. jude nods. ]

I was. The first time I was running solo, but during the second attack Madoka was working tirelessly alongside me.
